Subject:Singapoe Children’s Society(for abused and neglected children)
Date:23rd August 2008
After some careful consideration and consultation from the class, we have chosen Singapore Chidren’s Society(for abused and neglected children) for our all year round community involvement program as it helps to develop awareness of the community beyond the school and to foster class bonding.
Singapore Children’s Society has provided us with the activity of planning and executing programmes for the children, thus, allowing our class to know about the children that are neglected or abused and needs care. This shows how lucky we are as compare to the neglected and abused children in the outide world. Singapore Botanic Gardens prepared gardening for us which does not touch on the objectives of developing an awareness of the community beyond the school. And Society for the prevention of Cruelty to Animals(SPCA), Singapore, we can only prepare publications and sorting foreign currency from donation boxes. This only help us to improve our languages for preparing publication and that is not beyong the class.
Voluntary work provided for us by the Singapore Children’s Society (for abused and neglected children) also includes assist in filling, data entry and distributing mailers. This will then help us to develop class bonding skills as pupils will help each other to get the things done such as how to distribute the mailers, thus having more time with each other. When more time is spend with each other, they foster class-bonding. As for Singapore Botanic Gardens, volunteers will have the opportunity to maintain an area of the Gardens through write ups on plants and habitats. This activity is similar to individual work done in school, thus is not effective in fostering class-bonding. Also, although Society for the prevention of Cruelty to Animals(SPCA), Singapore, includes volunteering opportunities such as walking dogs and cleaning cages. This volunteering work os just like what many people does at home, taking responsibilites to wash the cages of the dog they own and to walk the dog when it needs one. This is more of taking own responsibility than to foster class-bonding.
This choice have been made by the class as we feel that it has the most effective volunteering opportuninites that develops an awareness of the community beyond the school and fostering class-bonding. We can also organise this community involvement program as a post exam activity as all of us are free. Thus, we believe you will look into our choice and approve our suggestions.
